Federal Resources
U.S. Department of Education (ED)
The U.S. Department of Education (ED) funds the Regional Educational Laboratory Program through the Institute of Education Sciences (IES).
Institute of Education Sciences (IES)
An ED office, IES brings rigorous and relevant research, evaluation, and statistics to our nation’s education system. IES funds high-quality studies to produce reliable information about education practices that support learning and improve academic achievement.
Regional Education Laboratory (REL) Network
Housed within IES, the Regional Educational Laboratory Program consists of 10 laboratories across the United States. Each REL serves the educational needs of a designated region by providing access to high-quality, scientifically valid education research through applied research and development projects, studies, and other related technical assistance activities.
What Works Clearinghouse (WWC)
An initiative of IES, WWC produces user-friendly practice guides, topic reports, and intervention reports for educators, policymakers, researchers, and the public. The WWC is a trusted source of scientific evidence of what works in education.
Education Resources Information Center (ERIC)
Sponsored by ED and IES, ERIC is the world's largest free online library of education research and information.
Comprehensive Centers
The Comprehensive Centers Network consists of 16 Regional Comprehensive Centers (CC) and 5 Content Centers. The U.S. Department of Education established the CC Network to provide technical assistance services focused on the state departments of education and the implementation of reform programs. WestEd manages the California Comprehensive Center and the Southwest Comprehensive Center.
The five Content Centers provide knowledge, expertise, and analyses to the Regional CCs and states served by the CCs. WestEd manages the Center on Accountability and Assessment.

National Research & Development Centers
The 16 National Education Research and Development Centers are funded through IES's National Center for Education Research. These Centers develop, test, and disseminate new approaches to improving teaching and learning, and ultimately, student achievement. Each of the Centers conducts a focused program of education research in its topic area.
