About 70 participants, including teaching staff, site and district administrative staff, the high school district Superintendent, and staff from REL West and other partner organizations, attended a three-hour seminar designed to build capacity for understanding and using data to inform math course placement.

Neal Finkelstein, Senior Research Scientist at REL West, presented the results of a recent analysis of California statewide math progressions and the consequences for college readiness as a frame for reviewing local achievement and course-taking data.

Kirsten King, Director of Instructional Services for the East Side Union High School District, then share the district's most recent math assessment results disaggregated by student subgroup, course, and feeder district. Following the presentations, district teams met to discuss their questions and conclusions.

Manny Barbara, Vice President of the Silicon Valley Education Foundation, provided framing and closing remarks, which summarized common themes in the district team discussions.
