Leading Change Conference


Leading Change is an annual conference sponsored and planned by the Arizona Department of Education (ADE) for site and district administrators across Arizona. The three-day conference will provide leaders with meaningful professional development and timely information across seven content strands. The ADE has requested that the Educator Effectiveness Alliance at REL West develop three sessions at the conference. The sessions and objectives are:

Student Voices (Strand: School Climate)

  • Understand the concept of student voice and the benefits of including student input in school improvement efforts.
  • Learn about resources that have been found effective in eliciting student ideas.

Speakers for this session include:

  • Noelle Caskey, REL West at WestEd
  • Jennifer Harris, Washoe County School District

Supporting New Teachers via High-Quality Induction Programs (Strand: Retention & Recruitment)

  • Understand the characteristics (and potential positive impacts) of a successful induction program for new teachers.
  • Learn practical, proven strategies to support effective school-based mentoring and induction programs and collect data on their impact(s).

  • Lynn Kepp, New Teacher Center
  • Justin Rall, New Teacher Center

Teaching Conditions as a Lever to Recruit and Retain Effective Teachers (Strand: Retention & Recruitment)

  • Understand the potential positive impacts of dedicated teacher collaboration time, and avenues for teacher leadership/career enhancement.
  • Learn practical strategies for districts to enhance teacher collaboration and leadership at school sites.
