Understanding the impacts of trauma on student mindset and success is crucial for supporting youth in schools. This webinar series will address the effects of trauma on brain development, approaches and frameworks to foster positive youth engagement, and the importance of supporting youth-serving adults to sustain this important work.
This 3-part webinar series is designed for county office of education administrators and staff, school district administrators, school site administrators/leaders, teachers, counselors, parent leaders, and community members.
County and district practitioners will share their experiences at webinars 2 and 3.
Webinar #1: Trauma and Resilience 101
How might the latest findings of brain science help us to foster more personalized learning environments?

- Participants became familiar with the fundamental concepts in resilience and trauma, including where the two concepts overlap.
- Participant learned how resilience and trauma studies can inform teaching and student support practices and policies.
Webinar #2: Fostering Positive Youth Development: Opportunities to Reframe the Conversation About Trauma
How might we create school systems and services that engage young people to improve their experience of school climate and wellness?
Time & Date: April 1, 2016 at 10:00am PDT
- Participants learned about positive youth development frameworks and approaches.
- Participants identified meaningful ways in which youth and young adults can participate and lead school climate and wellness services and systems.
- Participants addressed specific challenges with youth engagement that youth-serving educators may face.
- Participants identified appropriate environments that are inviting to youth and young adults and that will draw them to participate with service organizations.
Webinar #3: Self and Collective Care of Youth-Serving Adults
How might we create cultures of care not only for youth, but also for youth-serving adults?
Time & Date: April 8, 2016 at 10:00am PDT
- Participants gained language and learned from frameworks for why and how supporting youth-serving educators is critical to the prevention of burnout, secondary stress, and compassion fatigue prevention.
- Participants identified areas of strength and areas of growth in support for youth-serving adults.
- Participants identify strategies to apply self and collective care practices.
