Improving the CC to Career Pipeline Through Effective Advisement Services
- March 15, 2016
California Community College Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) Student Success Conference
In March 2016, REL West presented a panel on counseling for career and technical education (CTE) at the California Community College Chancellor's Office (CCCCO) Student Success Conference. The panel responded to the California Community College Board of Governor's 2015 Report, in which a key priority for improving the career outcomes for community college students was to "broaden and enhance career exploration and planning, work-based learning opportunities, and other supports for students." Participants heard from colleagues about innovative efforts throughout the state to provide CTE counseling to student advisees and enhance the career advisement capacity in counseling offices. Panelists shared about the development of CTE counseling programs, lessons learned, and recommendations for adapting programs to fit the needs of students as well as schools.
As a result of their participation, attendees:
- Learned about the key characteristics of successful career counseling programs, and
- Heard from colleagues who have recently undertaken improvement efforts in career counseling about program changes, lessons learned, and ongoing considerations.
