Supporting Principals Using Teacher Effectiveness Data

In spring 2016, REL West conducted workshops in Arizona and Utah to train school and district leaders to support principals in using teacher effectiveness data strategically to shape teacher development efforts and make key workforce decisions. These workshops were adapted from the "Supporting Principals in Using Teacher Effectiveness Data" professional learning module from the Center on Great Teachers and Leaders at AIR. Based on participant feedback on their usefulness, REL West adapted the in-person workshops to create this online, video-based workshop. Using the 25-minute video and accompanying handouts, district teams can work together on analyzing and interpreting teacher effectiveness data, using simulated and real data sets.

Participants engaging in this video-based workshop will:

  • Learn how teacher effectiveness data can be used to inform strategic workforce and professional learning decisions at the school level.
  • Practice making decisions regarding teacher assignment, leadership, and professional development.
  • Strategize about ways to address barriers to using teacher effectiveness data.

The accompanying facilitator guide is designed to help local teams use the video and handouts to discuss and plan how to strategically use their educator effectiveness data.
